Scoreboard operators were busy on Thursday as St. Mary's Knights Varsity and Tolleson combined for 20 runs. St. Mary's Knights Varsity eventually won the offensive battle 11-9 in seven innings.
The teams combined for 21 hits, including seven extra base hits. Danielle Ruiz went a perfect 3-3 at the dish for St. Mary's Knights Varsity. She doubled in the second inning and singled in the fourth and fifth innings. Lauren Eamiguel got the win for St. Mary's Knights Varsity despite allowing nine runs over seven innings. Eamiguel struck out 11, walked nine and gave up seven hits. Medina ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She allowed 11 runs in six innings, walked four and struck out none. St. Mary's Knights Varsity jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After Adelyne Gomez tripled, Eamiguel tripled, plating Gomez. St. Mary's Knights Varsity then tacked on more runs when Eamiguel scored on a passed ball and Ruiz scored on an RBI single by Alexia Munoz. Tolleson matched its two-run second inning with two more in the fourth. In the second, Tolleson scored on a walk by Medina, scoring Valdez. St. Mary's Knights Varsity survived Tolleson's surge and put up four runs of its own in the second. St. Mary's Knights Varsity scored on an RBI double by Gomez, an RBI single by Eamiguel, an RBI double by Ruiz, and an error. The lead stayed with St. Mary's Knights Varsity after the fourth, when it scored three runs on a fielder's choice and two singles. A one-run sixth inning helped bring Tolleson within two.
