St. Mary's Knights Varsity lost 7-3 in seven innings on Monday, despite outhitting Desert Vista nine to six.
Brooke Hughes got the win for Desert Vista. She tossed five innings of shutout ball. She struck out seven, walked one and surrendered two hits. Lauren Eamiguel was the game's losing pitcher. She allowed seven runs in six innings, walked five and struck out three. The game was never in doubt after the first, as Desert Vista scored one run on an RBI single by Kiara Kennedy. Desert Vista added three more runs in the bottom of the third. The inning got off to a hot start when Hughes singled, scoring Kennedy. A three-run fourth inning helped bring St. Mary's Knights Varsity within two. An RBI single by Mercedes Martinez and a two-run double by Gabby Alcantarset off St. Mary's Knights Varsity rally. Finally, Kendall Schwartz induced an inning-ending ground out from Maite Bustillos. Desert Vista built upon its lead with two runs in the fourth. A hit into a fielder's choice scored Rion Simms to get Desert Vista on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Jillian Navarro's single, bringing home Kennedy.
